It’s been almost a year since I left the confines of the US, and I’m starting to twitch a little. I’ve had a new passport since the spring, and it is completely devoid of stamps. It’s stiff from lack of use, and the edges aren’t fraying. This is all very disconcerting, so a couple of weeks ago, I decided to do something about it.
I booked a trip to Chile!
I’ve never been to South America, and it’s about time I did something about that. Thank goodness my wonderful friend Rachel now lives in Santiago and doesn’t mind company. There will be three of us going down to invade her condo, and we thoroughly intend to drag her to to mountains, beaches, and wineries. I know, she’ll have it rough.
I have a Lonely Planet guide that Rachel herself gave me, as well as my own fabulous Google skills. But if any of you out there have some recommendations or tips, I would love to hear them. I leave in less than two months - it’s time to get my research on!
Have fun planning your trip! Sounds like a great adventure ahead. I can put you in touch with a friend who's from Chile if you like...
ReplyDeleteOh, thank you! I'm all about talking with people who know the country, so that would be great! I can't wait to run around wine country and the mountains.
DeleteSan Pedro de Atacama might be the best place I've ever been. It is spectacularly beautiful and so different from anywhere else on earth. Hopefully you have some time to make it up there! I also loved Santiago and Valpo as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recommendation! I'll have 3 weeks to kill, and I'll base myself out of my friend's place in Santiago. I'm going to pull out that LP and read up on San Pedro de Atacama right... now!
